Blessed are the young, for they shall inherit the national debt.
Bad News: Seven months after Herbert Hoover took office, the stock market crashed. From high prosperity, the country fell into the Great Depression. Jobless Americans blamed Hoover for the country's economic failure. They called their shantytowns "Hoovervilles" and the newspapers they stuffed under their clothes for warmth "Hoover blankets." Though Hoover presented to Congress a plan to help alleviate suffering during the depression, it was never passed. He was blamed for the depression and was badly defeated when he sought reelection in 1932.
